Liverpool officially confirm signing of former West Ham goalkeeper Adrian

Liverpool have announced the signing of former West Ham and Betis goalkeeper Adrian on an initial two-year deal. The Reds were in the market for a goalkeeper after Simon Mignolet left the club for a return to his homeland, after six years at Anfield.

Adrian wasn’t retained by the Hammers at the end of his contract, but has bags of experience having spent six years with the London club.

The Spaniard worked his way through Real Betis’ youth ranks before earning himself a transfer the Premier League in 2013.

He didn’t have the easiest task ahead of him as he was earmarked to replace Jussi Jaaskelainen just a year after joining West Ham.

The Reds were linked with a few other goalkeepers, shortly after Mignolet’s departure was confirmed by Club Brugge, which included Southampton’s Alex McCarthy.

The Spaniard said that he’s happy and ambitious.

I’m feeling really happy; really happy to be here and to work in this great club and start doing my stuff on the pitch as soon as possible,he told the club’s official site.

I’m very ambitious, I come here to try to win everything, to try to push Ali from the first minute and to make us better.

Obviously I want to win titles. I come here to fight for all the competitions. We have many competitions ahead – we’re going to fight for it and try to get them.

I’m looking forward to playing my first game at Anfield and to win as many games as we can.

Adrian will serve as an experienced backup to Alisson Becker – and we definitely could do worse. Before we signed Loris Karius, I was hoping we’d make a move for the former West Ham stopper.
