Lawro thinks Jurgen Klopp could get the best out of Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale

Mark Lawrenson says Liverpool could be the ideal place for Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale to resurrect his career.

Bale has been told in no uncertain terms by Zinedine Zidane that he is not part of his plans at the Bernabeu, but a £1 million a week move to China broke down for the Welshman earlier in the summer.

There is no suggestion at all that the Reds would want to sign Bale, nor that they would pay his wages, which are reportedly around £600,000-per-week at the moment, about three times what Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk earn, but that hasn’t stopped Lawrenson suggesting him as a target.

Via the Daily Star, he said: “I think Klopp could get the best out of him. The only problem is would he fit into that front three but you could even play him on the left of the three in midfield and let him bomb on.

“He’s such a good player and such a talent. He just needs to be loved and Klopp would be the perfect fit to do that. People say he’s got injury problems and all that but Klopp would get him mega fit.”

There’s no way it’s going to happen, though it is slightly forgotten by some just how good Bale is. It’s not worked for him over the last couple of seasons in Spain, but he’s still scored in Champions League finals and dragged Real Madrid forward at times.

Getting Bale ‘mega fit’ isn’t just a case of putting him through pre-season – Zidane could have done that. And the less said about him being suited to playing in a midfield three, the better…
