Former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina, who many fans wanted to return to the club this summer before Adrian was signed this week, says the Reds should have won the Premier League last year.
In any other season, the Reds would have won the league by a mile, but Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City also performed incredibly well.
In the end, becoming European champions for a sixth time was a more than worthy consolation prize after a brilliant season.
According to the Daily Mirror, Reina said: “To make 97 points and to arrive second is just disgraceful! It’s unbelievable. What else can you do to be champions?
“Credit to Manchester City also because they won their last 15 or 16 games, which is unbelievable. It’s about time Liverpool won the league – they’ve been working really well in the last four years since Jurgen came to the club.”

The Spaniard believes that it will be the same two sides battling it out at the top this season, though Spurs are likely to close the gap a little.
Reina added: “It’s a competitive league, but I would say [this season] it will be a close fight between City and Liverpool.”
Each and every three points will be hugely important over the coming months, starting at Anfield against Norwich City on Friday night. If the Reds are to win the league this year, another near-100 point season is likely to be required.
