Peter Crouch gives his verdict on the Reds’ summer transfer window – with a message for supporters

Peter Crouch says Liverpool have been ‘arrogant’ this summer, but in a good way, telling Reds fans not to be concerned.

After winning the Champions League at the start of June, it was expected by most that Jurgen Klopp would spend a decent amount once again to push on further. In fact, only Harvey Elliott, Sepp van den Berg and Adrian came in for a total of less than £5 million.

Crouch, though, thinks that was the right move, in many ways echoing the thoughts that Klopp aired yesterday about following the Barcelona blueprint.

Writing for the Daily Mail, Crouch explained: “Jurgen Klopp hasn’t made any major signings but I don’t mind that one bit.

“He doesn’t need to spend £30m on someone if they don’t fit the bill — so why waste money? There is a good arrogance about the European champions.

“Klopp knows he has got a quality team, his players know they will progress again and the competition on the training ground will guarantee improvement. It’s the perfect atmosphere to improve in. If City falter, they will take advantage.”

The Reds are in a great position, and even though the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham have spent big this summer, Klopp will still be confident his players can stay well ahead of the pair.

If anything, the rest of the top-six strengthening could work in the Reds’ favour in the title race, as they might be able to provide Manchester City with a few more problems than last year, taking a few points of them over the course of the season.
