Reds considering shock emergency signing to cope with injury crisis

Liverpool are considering offering 35-year-old goalkeeper Andy Lonergan a short-term deal, according to The Times, as Jurgen Klopp seeks to sort out his injury crisis between the sticks.

Alisson Becker could be out for between four and eight weeks with his injury, while Simon Mignolet departed the club last week for Club Bruges. Caoimhin Kelleher, the 20-year-old, is highly regarded, but he is still recovering from a broken wrist.

Adrian, signed on a free transfer to replace Mignolet, came on to make his Reds debut against Norwich City on Friday and he is set for a spell in the side.

With no one with any experience to put on the bench, though, the Reds need to bring somebody else in. Lonergan, who impressed while training with the Reds during pre-season, could be the answer.

It won’t be long before any move for Lonergan is announced if that is to be done, as he will be needed for the bench against Chelsea on Wednesday night. After being released by Middlesbrough over the summer, no one saw this coming for him – it’s an incredible story.
