Klopp explains conversation with referee after VAR controversy

Referee Stephanie Frappart did a superb job last night in the Super Cup.

We can totally understand why she gave the penalty to Chelsea in Extra Time, but cannot understand why VAR didn’t overturn it when a camera angle simply proved that there was virtually zero contact.

It’s literally what the technology is there for. Similarly, Adrian was actually quite far off his line (a stupid rule, anyway) for Chelsea’s final spot-kick in the shootout – and it should have been retaken – which proves we’re not biased – just hate the new rules.

There was nothing wrong with football in the first place. Why are we meddling with it?!

Anyway, Jurgen Klopp made sure to praise Frappart and her team after our win – and rightly so.

“I said to the refereeing team that if we played like they whistled, we we’d have won 6-0. They were really good. There was pressure on them like hell – a historic moment. They stayed calm did what they had to do in an important game. I couldn’t have more respect,” he said, according to Melissa Reddy on Twitter.

Hopefully, female officials in football will become standard.

There’s no reason why they shouldn’t be.

Her performance proved that and will hopefully open the door for more female refs at all levels of the men’s game.

More female refs, less VAR, please. Eradicate it before everybody hates football.
