Adrian’s former boss Manuel Pellegrini says he is delighted for the goalkeeper after his heroics in the UEFA Super Cup, adding that West Ham United wanted to keep hold of the Spaniard this summer.
The ex-Manchester City coach revealed that he would rather Adrian had remained at the London Stadium, but an agreement could not be reached for him to do so.
It might be that he was aware of the Reds’ interest in the event that Simon Mignolet left, so he didn’t want to tie himself down to a contract elsewhere.
According to Squawka, Pellegrini said: “I’m very happy for him because he played a lot of years here at West Ham. He’s a very good goalkeeper.
“For different reasons, he couldn’t find an arrangement to continue here. We wanted him here because not only is he a good goalkeeper but he is a good player for the squad.
“He signed for Liverpool and put in a very good performance and I’m happy for him.”

Adrian has only been at Anfield for a week or so, but he seems to have settled in immediately. He’s clearly a great person to have around the dressing room and the training ground, and he fits into the Reds’ playing style better than Mignolet did.
Everyone wishes Alisson the speediest possible recovery, but in the meantime, Adrian has shown he can be a trusted asset between the sticks.
