Former LFC youngster Cameron Brannagan doesn’t regret leaving Liverpool

Liverpool’s Academy product Cameron Brannagan has explained that he doesn’t regret leaving Anfield for pastures new.

The midfielder left for Oxford United in 2018 and that’s where he remains today having made a name for himself at his new club.

Brannagan packed his things after making just three senior appearances for the Reds, at the age of 21. It was perceived as a shame at the time as the young star showed promise.

The former Red believes he made the right decision last year, as he’s since established himself in Oxford United’s team and has been rewarded with the captain’s armband.

I knew I made the right decision as soon as I came,he told Banbury Cake. “I wanted to play football and kick-start my career. Coming here has helped me do that.

Everyone has been great with me. It was a bit difficult moving down at first because I’ve never really lived away from home.

I’m not sure how every Liverpool fan will feel about Cameron’s comments, but I’m happy for the lad. Any player that represents the Reds will always have my respect, unless they do something stupid (like Charles Itandje).

Oxford United are a mid-table League One side so it’s hardly a surprise that Brannagan has established himself in such a way – he showed flashes of ability, when at Liverpool.

I’d expect Cameron to move on to bigger things in the future; I could certainly see him playing at a similar level to fellow former Red Conor Coady in a couple of years.
