Carragher reveals why Liverpool didn’t rival Spurs for Sessegnon

Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has help shed some light on why the Reds didn’t challenge Spurs for the signature of apparent target Ryan Sessegnon.

The Liverpool legend did confirm that the club were interested in the young Englishman, but that they saw him as another player for the future and not someone who could challenge Andrew Robertson.

With Yasser Larouci and Adam Lewis looking like they’re about to break into the first team, and James Milner ready to fill in when asked, it wouldn’t have made much sense for the Reds to break the bank for the 19-year-old.

Writing in his column for the Telegraph, Carragher confirms this. “I know Liverpool watched Ryan Sessegnon, and saw another player for the future rather than someone who could go straight into the team at left-back.

This will no doubt come as a disappointment for some Liverpool fans as they were crying out for the Reds to dip into the market over the summer.

The additions of youngsters Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott, along with the signing of veteran goalkeeper Adrian, was all the Jurgen Klopp felt he needed this summer.

The German boss has proven to be safe hands for us to be in so we can only trust that the Reds have made the right decision in seemingly letting Sessegnon slip through our fingers.
