Klopp ‘thinks about football every minute of every day’

Jurgen Klopp ‘lives and breathes’ football management, his great friend David Wagner has revealed in an insight into the Reds boss’ character.

The pair have known each other for ‘longer than Wagner has known his wife’.

They played together at Mainz, and both would take-up concurrent management roles at Dortmund.

Speaking to Fifa.com about his compatriot in the wake of his nomination for The Best Fifa’s Men Coach Award, Wagner insisted Klopp’s on-camera personality was genuine.

“He’s got a great personality and is simply a nice guy. In private he’s exactly how you see him on TV,” the Schalke boss said.

His complete obsession with the game, he says, is typical of the very best.

“Sometimes you need a little bit of luck to win a title, but he absolutely deserved this.

“He lives and breathes this job 100 per cent, he thinks about football or his team every minute of every day.

“That’s the way good coaches are, you can’t simply switch off from what might happen to the team tomorrow, next week or in an hour’s time.”

Wagner has also expressed his hope that Klopp leads us to the title this year to consolidate his legendary status at Anfield.

He anticipates another very close battle with Manchester City.

“I hope that he goes one better this year and takes the Premier League title, even though we all know that that’s easier said than done,” said Wagner.

“He and his lads will work incredibly hard for it, but that league is such a tight one.

“He’s really put on a show with them up until now though.

“I hope he wins the title with them this season.”
