Jurgen Klopp says the decision to close the transfer window in England before the Premier League season begins is a great idea – but only if the rest of Europe follows suit.
Last year, for the first time, Premier League clubs voted to have it close before the rest of the continent. The idea is that once the season begins, that should be the sole focus, however, unless the rest of Europe does the same thing, it only causes a disadvantage for English sides.

If a player was to leave – Dejan Lovren, for example, who has been linked with a switch to Serie A – then a replacement would not be able to be signed until January, forcing clubs not to do business unless an offer is too good to turn down.
That might mean keeping a player against his wishes, which is a waste and can cause problems.
Via the Liverpool ECHO’s Ian Doyle, Klopp said: “I don’t care when the transfer window closes, I just want it to close at the same time [for everyone].
“I wanted it before the start of the season. But only England did it – that really makes no sense. What is the benefit for the Premier League?
“We aren’t really involved in it, it’s not a problem for us. But it is for other clubs. Why can we not review it? We can change it again.”
It’s not an issue for the Reds this summer, with Klopp more than happy with his squad depth, though it could be in future years. If enough clubs change their mind, another vote could take place to move the window back to August 31, like it used to be.
