Jurgen Klopp has heaped praise onto midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who signed a new long-term contract extension with the Reds last night – and has hinted that the number 15 needs a song to be created about him soon.

Oxlade-Chamberlain is still on the road to recovery after his injury sustained against AS Roma in the Champions League semi-final in April 2018, but played the majority of the game against Southampton last weekend, impressing in the second period.

Now the news of his new deal is the latest confidence boost he has picked up – a just reward for his patience and hard work to come back from a significant setback that saw him miss 12 months of action.

Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com, Klopp said: “When I heard Ox had signed his new contract with us, I am sure my emotions were the same as every Liverpool fan hearing the news tonight – absolutely delighted.

“I have said in the past, one of the best things about him is what an outstanding human being he is, one of the nicest guys you will meet. Of course, he is also an outstandingly talented footballer, too.”

On the need for an Anfield song for Oxlade-Chamberlain, Klopp made a request to fans.

He added: “Who knows, maybe this is the season we hear the Kop sing an Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain song? I can tell you it would mean a lot to me and the boys to hear that, let alone him!”

Oxlade-Chamberlain will be hoping to feature against his former side, Arsenal, when the Reds face the Gunners at Anfield on Saturday evening.
