Liverpool’s goalscoring sensation Bobby Duncan, who is the cousin of Steven Gerrard, has been left out of the U23’s clash with Southampton this evening due to ongoing speculation over his future, according to Football Insider.

The striker, who scored 32 times last season, his first with the club after joining from Manchester City, trained with the first team during the summer and went on the pre-season tour of the USA, but has been on the bench for the U23s so far this season, with Rhian Brewster ahead of him in the pecking order.

The Reds have already turned down a loan bid this summer from Danish side FC Nordsjælland, and Serie A side Fiorentina are believed to have submitted a loan-to-buy offer for him.

Keeping hold of Duncan is absolutey vital for the Reds. His goal record speaks for itself and he has only been at the club for a short time.

If Brewster is going to stay with the U23s for a sustained spell, it would be worth sending Duncan out on loan, but sanctioning any kind of permanent deal would make no sense at all.

The chances will come for Duncan as he is a precocious talent, but he will need to remain patient. At 18, he’s still got plenty of time on his side.
