Man City star makes Premier League title race pressure claim

Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan says the pressure in the Premier League title race – and that fact that the Reds are so good – can be a good thing for both sides over the coming months.

So far, City are two points behind the Reds after three matches, with both teams set to battle it out at the top of the table once again.

Tottenham – the team who City dropped points against a couple of weeks ago – could also be part of the battle, but they lost to Newcastle United at the weekend and still look some way off competing at the very summit.

Via the Daily Star, Gundogan said: “I think we should always put ourselves under pressure because we are so talented and such a good team that we want to win every game, so the pressure comes from inside.

“The fact that Liverpool does so well recently just shows that there is a team with a lot of quality that will also be a big contender for the season. That’s good for the league, maybe also good for us but also good for Liverpool that we are there so it’s going to be a fight.”

Last season, only a point separated the teams at the top and it could be just as close this year. If City go a long way in the Champions League, given they have not won that competition before, that could prove to be a distraction.

It might something as small as that which proves to be the decisive factor in deciding which way the title goes. Both sides are incredible, and whatever happens, it’s going to be an incredible race to be a part of.
