In the wake of the storm that is unfolding surrounding 18-year-old forward Bobby Duncan, quotes have resurfaced surrounding something Jurgen Klopp said during the summer.
Duncan was one of a number of youngsters to impress during pre-season, alongside the likes of Paul Glatzel and Yasser Larouci.
Now, though, he has hit out at the club for ‘bullying’ him and ‘damaging his mental health’ in a statement released via his representatives.
One of the issues, Duncan and his agent claim, is that he wants first-team football and the Reds – despite his 32 goals last season – do not believe he will get it at Anfield.
Via the Daily Mirror, Klopp said during pre-season: “I would say it’s quite difficult to immediately be part of that first-team squad because we are really strong, but it’s always like it is.
“These boys are our future if they want to be our future. That’s how it is because for that they need to take all the steps. When you are already in the club, then the door is always open for you to the first team.
“The thing is you have to go through by yourself – we only open the door, we don’t push you through. So, I’m open, I’m very open for exciting football players and if the boys show up, good for them and good for us.”

The best thing that Duncan’s agent could have said to him is to get his head down, work hard, score even more for the Academy, and take his chance when it comes. Unfortunately, the situation appears to have evolved very differently.
