Selection strategy to ‘completely change’ after internationals

Jurgen Klopp says there’s no reason to rest players at this early stage of the season but has confirmed that he will begin to rotate after the upcoming international break.

Our schedule is set to become significantly more intense after the fortnight break which follows this weekend’s trip to Burnley.

Having recently enjoyed the luxury of week-long intervals between matches, we’ll face five games within fourteen days when the squad reconvenes as we begin our Champions League and Carabao Cup campaigns.

And that fatigue-inducing schedule will demand calculated changes from one match to the next.

“There is no reason for resting players in the moment; it is about finding rhythm, finding the mood again, that we do the right things in the right moment,” Klopp explained in his pre-match press conference. “It is not the moment for a lot of changes.

“After this international break, that will change completely of course.

“We have had a full week to train and when the boys won the last game and then showed me that they are still in their best possible shape, then we will only think about a couple of really small changes.

“They are all around and that’s good. No decision is made forever in football; we always make decisions for one match and then the next is waiting.

“Usually in this time [international break] they will go all around the world, but after that we need them all and they know that. That’s why the mood in the dressing room is pretty good.”

This could be good news for the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Divock Origi, omitted from what would have been our strongest available XI last time out against Arsenal.

The relentless succession of games will certainly test the merits of our summer transfer strategy.
