El Hadji Diouf claims Liverpool star Sadio Mane is following in his footsteps

Former excuse of a footballer El Hadji Diouf has astonishingly claimed that Liverpool star forward Sadio Mane is following in his footsteps.

He’s actually meant it as a compliment which just goes to show how inflated the man’s ego is.

Mane has 62 goals to his name after just a few season with the Reds – the two are incomparable, if judged solely on their efforts at Anfield.

[Sadio Mane] is following in my footsteps,Diouf told FIFA’s official website – via SOKA 25 east. “He’s doing an incredible job. He’s a fantastic ambassador for Senegal.

Now he has a chance to write his own story. And on top of being a superb player, he’s also a great guy – humble, generous and always available for other people. We have a special relationship.

To be fair to the man, Diouf has actually said really nice things about our Sadio. He also paints fellow star forward Mohamed Salah in a positive light as well.

You can’t have one without the other,” he added. “One of them’s left-footed [Salah] and the other’s right-footed. Sadio needs Mo like Mo needs Sadio. They have the same qualities: speed of execution and skill in their final touch.

Salah is perhaps a little more effective in front of goal because he puts in less defensive work than Mane, but I’ll say it again: you can’t have one without the other.

It’s quite nice to report on Diouf’s comments and for them not to be some ridiculous claim about Liverpool natives Steven Gerrard or Jamie Carragher.

I have to agree with much of what the former Senegalese international has said – our two wingers do compliment each other very nicely.

I’ve never really considered either winger to be particularly defensive so I’m not sure why Diouf has mentioned that, but whatever, at least it was something nice.
