Liverpool confirmed the sales of young talents Bobby Duncan and Ryan Kent yesterday, with the winger re-joining Rangers and the striker signing for Serie A giants Fiorentina.
Both transfers are permanent and no buy-back clause is believed to have been included in either deal.
Duncan joined I Viola for a reported £1.8million, as per the BBC, which is a return of nine times what the club paid to get him from Manchester City last summer.
Kent signed for Rangers after the Scottish club forked out Liverpool’s asking price of £7million – which is considerably lower than what they wanted earlier in the summer – again, as per the BBC.
Both deals reportedly include a 20% sell-on clause which would see the Reds benefit from any windfall in the future, should either – or both – player(s) go on to surpass expectations.
Opinion
Losing Duncan seems like a bigger shame than moving on Kent, to me. The winger never really looked as if he could play at the highest level for Liverpool.
His performances paled in comparison to the likes of Harry Wilson – he just wasn’t good enough, and raking in £7million for him is a stroke a genius.
Duncan, however, was showing a lot of promise at such a young level. He wasn’t up to the standard of Rhian Brewster, but he certainly looked like the next best thing.
