Ederson makes Alisson admission in debate over who is better

Manchester City stopper Ederson thinks his Brazilian compatriot Alisson is a shoe-in for The Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper award 2019.

The two Premier League goalkeepers are in a three-man shortlist alongside Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen – but Alisson is really the stand out candidate.

He won the Golden Glove in the Premier League, finishing 2nd on 97 points, the Golden Glove in the Champions League, winning the competition, and the Golden Glove in the Copa America with his country, winning that as well!

“I think the three of us were the best, but I see Alisson one step ahead,” Ederson told Goal.

“He was great in the Premier League, won the Champions League, the UEFA Super Cup and had a great Copa America as well.

“So I think whoever wins will be deserving and I’m happy for two Brazilian goalkeepers to reach this level.”

Ederson and ter Stegen are elite no.1s, but we wouldn’t swap Alisson for any of them.

His calmness with the ball at his feet, shot-stopping and the manner in which he commands his area makes him one of the best keepers we’ve ever had between the Anfield sticks.

Right now, Alisson is injured and has only played about 20 minutes of football this term, after he pulled his calf on Premier League Opening Day v Norwich.

Hopefully he’ll be back before our Champions League campaign gets under way in two weeks’ time, but there’s no guarantee he’ll be fully fit by then.
