Two Reds stars to miss out for England this evening – and one is very frustrating

England face Bulgaria this evening, and while most Reds fans won’t care what the result is, there are some reasons to tune in.

According to The Athletic, Jordan Henderson is set to line up in a midfield three alongside Ross Barkley and Declan Rice. Quite how Barkley is going to get a start despite the likes of James Maddison and Mason Mount starting the season in great form, we’re not too sure.

At the back, Joe Gomez is likely to be Gareth Southgate’s preferred option, alongside Manchester United man Harry Maguire. Gomez has not played a massive amount in the centre this season for the Reds, but he is certainly better than Michael Keane, Southgate’s other option.

Reds men Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, though, are set to miss out on the starting XI.

Kieran Tripper, now at Atletico Madrid, is said to be the number one choice at right-back, while many thought Oxlade-Chamberlain would be able to build his fitness in these qualifiers ready to return to Anfield having got some minutes under his belt.

There is another game for England – against Kosovo on Tuesday – when Oxlade-Chamberlain could get some time on the pitch but it’s frustrating that he won’t be playing tonight as well.

It’s the one time we actually wanted a Reds player to feature for his country in a mid-season international and he’s not going to get a start!
