Portugal right-back wants LFC move, but admits he isn’t good enough to start every week

Benfica defender Andre Almeida would jump at the chance of transferring to either Liverpool or Manchester United – not that either move looks especially likely in the coming windows!

The 29-year-old currently plies his trade in his homeland, and in truth, his chances of a blockbuster transfer are probably already gone, despite Liverpool being pretty short in terms of genuine right-back options.

“I always had the dream of going to the Premier League. I really like Liverpool and Manchester United for their history,” he said, cited in the Echo.

“I also like Real Madrid and Barcelona , but I prefer the Premier League. I would not have the ability to play all the starting games.”

Almeida isn’t wrong in that he’d probably struggle to start ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold right now…

Our fullback is genuinely world-class and has a chance of earning selection into this year’s FIFPRO XI.

In Trent’s absence though, Joe Gomez is likely the first replacement, and he’s more comfortable at centre-back – with Jordan Henderson and James Milner capable of doing a job too.

At EOTK, we would have likely strengthened the position over the summer, but Jurgen Klopp decided to stick with a small squad he trusts implicitly – and in fairness – who are we to argue?
