Klopp explains why winning trophies is ‘never my motivation’

Jurgen Klopp has outlined his ‘day-by-day’ approach to leading Liverpool to silverware.

Klopp’s finally ended his wait for trophies at Anfield this year with a Champions League and UEFA Super Cup double.

The main goal now is to land that elusive Premier League crown after missing out in truly cruel circumstances last season.

Klopp will go about that bid not with some grand strategy, but with full focus on the next game – his recipe for success.

“Titles are and were never my motivation, I want to win every game and make my players better day by day, and then we’ll see where that leads,” he told the Deutschen Presse-Agentur, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“We were very close last year. You only lose one match in the whole season and it’s not enough in the end – that was very bitter.

“But it’s clear that there is a lot more possible with my team, and yes, the title in the Premier League would be a great endorsement for many years of hard work.”

For the first few years of Klopp’s tenure, it was about building a team capable of fighting for top honours, rather than winning titles.

But now that winning machine is firing on all cylinders, we should harbour the ultimate ambitions, and we have to stick by the approach which landed us the European crown.
