LFC get lucky as paperwork mixup means Mo Salah avoids friendly

Mo Salah is currently enjoying a nice break, which should see him return after the international break full of energy and dynamism.

We’ve got Newcastle on Saturday, then games against Napoli and Chelsea – all of which we expect him to start in.

But our no.11 was actually pretty close to being called up by Egypt to play an annoying friendly miles away, according to journalist Igor Burbas.

He tweeted the following message, which we’ve translated:

“Egypt was supposed to be in place of Nigeria in Dnipro friendly.. The UAF had an agreement with the Federation there. The contract said Salah had to play, too.

“But there were not enough paper signatures. The Egyptians postponed it because of their participation in the AFCON. And then an early departure from the tournament, the resignation of the coach, president. End of story.”

It seems the Egyptian FA is run pretty horrendously, judging by the issues they’ve had with Salah in the past – and his complaints – so this doesn’t surprise us.

Having Salah at Melwood, refining his already incredible game is great news.

Sadio Mane’s Senegal are also without any fixtures during his fortnight, so Salah’s partner in crime will be fit and raring to go for the Toon clash as well.

The fixture is known for its goals, and we hope both get on the scoresheet this Saturday lunchtime – and that there’s no animosity between the pair – unlike during the 3-0 victory over Burnley!
