Liverpool coach John Achterberg provides Alisson injury update

Liverpool have been without star goalkeeper Alisson Becker since the first game of the Premier League season when he was taken off before half-time, after injuring himself.

He injured his calf and was replaced by Spanish stopper, and Liverpool new boy, Adrian who helped the Reds see out a victory on the opening day of the season.

But John Achterberg is feeling positive about the situation. “Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up,he told the club’s official site.

In the last few days he has been out on the pitch to do some catching and footwork, as well as small passing drills. He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress.

It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that.

Adrian has performed as well as expected in the Brazilian’s absence, but the Reds will look to get the Golden Glove winner back on the pitch as soon as possible.

The former Real Betis man was the hero in Istanbul as Chelsea were defeated on penalties, and the Spaniard is actually yet to be on a losing side as a Liverpool player.

Hopefully this form continues for Adrian, but let’s hope Alisson is back sooner rather than later.
