Ryan Kent brands Liverpool liars following summer transfer

Bobby Duncan’s exit from Liverpool was controversial this summer.

The scouser kicked up a fuss and his agent slammed both the club and Michael Edwards, who subsequently rushed through his transfer to Italy.

Ryan Kent though was seemingly similarly unhappy, but behaved in a much more professional manner ahead of his switch to Rangers.

Now north of the border on a permanent basis however, Kent has spoken out – describing Liverpool as liars – presumably in regards to playing time opportunities.

“It was very tough,” he told the Daily Record. “I had to stay mentally strong, when you are told you can do one thing and then you are lied to and it doesn’t happen, that is quite hard to take.

“I just had to keep myself fit and train on my own and make sure I keep my fitness levels up and I was waiting for a moment like this to arrive.

“There’s no bitter taste, the thing that I wanted from the start happened at the end so I am just happy with that.

“I would have liked to have been here from the start, it is quite difficult watching it on the TV wishing I was part of some of the games but I am delighted to be back and I can’t wait to get going.

“There were probably some slight concerns along the way when I thought this might not happen and I might have to plan for something else but I always had a feeling that it might go to the last day of the window and that’s what happened.”

Liverpool are now in a fairly tricky situation. We have brilliant youngsters coming through the Academy, but especially when it comes to attackers and midfielders, no real path to the first-team.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez originally got their chances because we were short at the back – but how is a young central midfielder, like Curtis Jones for example, going to get minutes when Adam Lallana cannot get a sniff and Serbia international Marko Grujic gets sent on loan?

The counter-argument is that if a player is good enough, he’ll rise to the top, but the level required now to start under Klopp is either world-class or the tier just below that.

How can that be expected of 18-years-olds…? Still, in many ways, it’s a nice problem to have – and we can appreciate the club didn’t buy new players in the summer in order to give the likes of Rhian Brewster a chance.

Let’s just hope when they get it, they grab it with both hands.
