Pep Guardiola: The Premier League title race is over

Posted by

Pep Guardiola has jokingly declared the title race to be over following Norwich City’s win over the Premier League champions last night.

With 33 games each still to play, and only a five-point gap at the top, clearly there is a long way to go in the race yet, but the Reds are no doubt in the better position right now.

With Aymeric Laporte injured and Vincent Kompany no longer at the club, City looked a shadow of their former selves in a defensive sense, conceding very sloppily and looking frail and fragile.

After watching his team lose 3-2 at Carrow Road, Guardiola was in a strange mood.

Via the Metro, he said with a smile: “Congratulations Liverpool, you are the champions. We’re in September, what do you have to do? We’ll recover, train and come back.

“We’ve dropped five points. Tottenham, we played incredibly well. Today, in the important parts we have to know exactly what to do.”

We can’t work out whether it’s mind games, or nothing more than a sarcastic comment that he made flippantly at the time of the interview.

Either way, don’t let anyone kid you: the Reds are not celebrating anything yet. Far from it.
