Andy Robertson outlines why the Reds are perfectly set up for huge run of games

Andy Robertson says the Reds will take this season one game at a time – citing the Champions League semi-final week last season as proof that the players have already shown they are capable of doing so.

Last season, must-win games came in a flurry towards the back end of the campaign, with the two legs against Barcelona falling either side of that tricky trip to St. James’ Park to face Newcastle United.

With two games a week until the next international break in mid-October, the fixtures come thick and fast for the next month too, and Robertson believes last year’s experience can only be beneficial in helping to overcome that.

Via the Liverpool ECHO, he said: “Every game is like a cup final and that’s the game in front of us. Last season we were very good at never looking too far ahead at the games that you class as big games.

“Newcastle away last season, for example, we took care of that after Barcelona away. We had Barcelona at home three days after but we took care of the games that we had to take care of because the next game is the most important.

“We don’t look too far ahead but we just focus on the next game because that’s how we get the best out of ourselves.”

Even with a five-point buffer in the Premier League, it is massively important that the Reds keep on winning, while in the Champions League, beating Napoli tomorrow night would be a big boost in terms of qualifying for the knockout stages early on.

If the Reds can maintain a five-point Premier League gap to Manchester City before Pep Guardiola’s men come to Anfield on November 9, that could be very significant in the title race.

That will be very tough, though, with matches against Chelsea, Sheffield United, Leicester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Aston Villa to come before then in the league, as well as the Carabao Cup clash with MK Dons and three European fixtures.
