Kevin de Bruyne fires title race warning to Reds as he dismisses concerns over five-point gap

Kevin de Bruyne says Manchester City are not concerned by their recent form and run of results – pointing out that last season, there was a time when they were seven points behind in the title race only to ultimately prevail.

After the defeat to Norwich City, De Bruyne ‘liked’ a post on Instagram which mocked the suggestion the Reds were already favourites to win the Premier League this season because of the five-point buffer.

Five points to second place is the most there has ever been in any Premier League campaign at this stage, but no one is taking anything for granted: clearly, there is a very long way to go.

Via the Daily Mirror, De Bruyne said: “Last season we were seven points behind – it happens. Of course we want to win every game but it is difficult. You have to respect the other team and when they do well. They do well and that is it.

“It will be tough, the next seven months, like last year. It never stops. It is our job and sometimes it is hard but you have to take it on the chin.

“We lost four games out of 38 last season and that is a good record. We can still win this season with the same points at the end of this season.”

The Reds face City at Anfield on November 9 before travelling to the Etihad Stadium at the beginning of April. Those two games could be very dicisive in terms of where the Premier League title ends up in May.

The Reds have placed themselves in a great position, but with 33 games to go, starting with Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, obviously nothing is anywhere near wrapped up yet.
