Reds’ Club World Cup opponents confirmed: Everything you need to know about the December schedule

Liverpool will face the winner of CF Monterrey (Mexico) vs. Al Sadd (Qatar) or Hienghene Sport (New Caledonia) in the semi-final of the Club World Cup in December, with the game to take place on Wednesday, December 18.

Four days earlier, Watford come to Anfield in the Premier League, so the turnaround is tight, but given the standard of the opponent, a slightly changed side should be able to progress through to the final which will take place on the weekend of December 21 and 22.

Even if the Reds go out, they will face a third-place play-off, and will have to remain in Qatar for a few days for that anyway.

The league game against West Ham United, which was meant to be taking place that weekend, has already been postponed.

The rescheduling of that clash at the London Stadium is likely to hinge on both side’s progression in the Carabao Cup and could be moved to a midweek date in January.

After competing in the Club World Cup, which the Reds qualified for as European champions, the next game back in England is against Leicester City on Boxing Day at the King Power Stadium.
