Gary Neville: Why Fabinho is best anchorman on the planet

Gary Neville told Monday Night Football that right now, Fabinho is the best holding midfielder in world football.

The former Manchester United star was explaining on Sky Sports that Jurgen Klopp’s Brazilian monster is exceptional because he doesn’t just play horizontally.

This season, Fabinho has been practically faultless and is one of the first names on the team-sheet

Fabinho at the moment is the best. He steps up the pitch and wins the ball. And most importantly he doesn’t just pass it sideways to the CBs. He plays vertically,” Neville said, as reported by Premier League Panel.

N’Golo Kante is terrific and Sergio Busquets is wonderful at playing short passes which allow a more attacking player to go on a dribble – but we wouldn’t swap Fabinho for anybody right now.

Not only is Fabinho physically incredible, but he’s tactically smart, works hard and has the technical ability on the play incisive passes.

He does this faster than Jordan Henderson, too – which makes life harder for opposition defences – with the midfield often played through.

There are questions as to who should start alongside Fabinho in Jurgen Klopp’s central three – but the former AS Monaco man is an automatic and will be throughout the season.
