Liverpool fans have been expressing their anger at the state of VAR after it failed to rectify a decisive referee error against Napoli.
Jose Callejon was able to dive under challenge from Andrew Robertson and win a penalty even after a review.
It’s left many questioning just what the point of the technology is in its current guise.
This is the second time in as many matches Liverpool have fallen victim to its failings (somehow Joel Matip wasn’t awarded a penalty against Newcastle on Saturday) and worryingly, it won’t be the last.
Here’s the pick of the reactions…
That’s as clear a dive as you’ll ever see. VAR is a shambles. https://t.co/NW5WHzWH4V

Two obvious refereeing mistakes gone against Liverpool in two successive matches that VAR has failed to overturn.
Someone remind me of the point of it? https://t.co/ektM8xGo1Y

They want us to embrace VAR yet it’s consistently shite.

This 'it needs to be a clear and obvious error to overrule the referee' thing is absurd. If a player dives and initiates the contact entirely himself, it's not a penalty. The VAR officials can clearly see that. If it's still given then you might as well sack off the technology.

It’s been years since VAR overturned I swear to god.

As many pointed out, the problems are not inherent in the system…
Callejon dived and got away with it. It's clear and obvious to everybody watching except the VAR officials. No idea what definition they're using. We literally have the technology to stop these mistakes deciding games but the refereeing authorities have implemented it so poorly.

Needed
Are we really going to be embarrassing like City and start instantly hating VAR the second it doesn’t work in favor of us?
