The two world-class stars who the Reds forced Trent Alexander-Arnold to replicate

Trent Alexander-Arnold is right up there among the very best full-backs in the world right now, and some of that progression that he has made has been attributed to watching videos of Dani Alves and Philipp Lahm.

The former Barcelona man Alves has been one of the best attacking right-backs on the planet for most of his career, while Lahm’s intelligence made him one of the best players in the world at his peak.

The Reds made Alexander-Arnold analyse the pair to work on his game as he transitioned from playing in midfield to his now usual slot at full-back.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, he said: “When I was studying full-backs, it was always Lahm and Alves. Alves is a really attacking aggressive player, solid in his defensive duties but really good attacking-wise, almost like a winger, makes things happen.

“Our analysts would clip together Alves’s best work of the season for me to study. Positional stuff, decision-making, runs. I focused more on Lahm defensively and Alves in the attacking sense.”

It won’t be long until young players are being told to watch Alexander-Arnold’s performances in order to work on their own game, if that is not being done already.

Certainly, the hard work has paid off for the West Derby-born 20-year-old star. He’s now a regular for the Reds and will only get better and better over the coming seasons.
