Mourinho warns Liverpool after Chelsea victory

Jose Mourinho, now a regular Sky Sports pundit, reckons the five point gap between Liverpool and Manchester City in the Premier League is nothing.

And he’s probably right, although we’d prefer to be in our position than that of our rival.

Liverpool are on 18 from six games, with City on 13, although they showed with their brutal 8-0 victory over Watford at the weekend that there was no lasting effect from the defeat to Norwich the weekend previous.

“Five points lead to Man City, I don’t think it is significant,” Mourinho told Sky Sports, cited in the Express.

“Liverpool obviously they are going to lose a match, like City lost to Norwich. They will lose a match.

“They are going to drop a couple of points here and there and City are capable of having a run like Liverpool is having now. I think this five points gap is not so significant.

“But we were speaking before the game, it is better to go in the top of the league, it’s better to look back and see my biggest rival.

“City today, it’s one of these matches, where they think, Stamford Bridge, even a draw is good for them, they go from five to three.

“In the end it is a big victory for Liverpool.”

Our victory over Chelsea was very important yesterday, as it means should we beat Sheffield United on Saturday, we’ll be eight points clear of City before they take on Everton – although in fairness – we’re not expecting them to do us any favours!

Already, it’s looking like a two-horse race in the Premier League, with a likely monumental points tally required to win the title…

The other top six teams look decidedly average, and we can see Leicester City breaking into it this term.

But Liverpool and City will be very far ahead of whichever side is in third placed, come May, that we’re certain of.
