Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk are the only two Reds players to have been named in the FIFPro World XI for 2019 – with Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Andy Robertson among those who can be frustrated to miss out.

For Marcelo to be selected ahead of Robertson, given the seasons the pair had, is remarkable, while both Mane and Salah should be in there before Cristiano Ronaldo and perhaps Kylian Mbappe, too, given PSG’s performance in the Champions League.
It’s a great honour for the Reds to have two players in the line-up and shows how well the club is doing, but equally, it is is pretty much a popularity contest in some positions.
Elsewhere, Lionel Messi beat Van Dijk to the Best Player award, which the pair were competing for alongside Ronaldo. It will just have to be the Ballon d’Or for Van Dijk, then!
