Liverpool’s preference amid Nike/New Balance kit dispute

Liverpool believe striking a kit deal with Nike would be ‘best for the club’, according to The Athletic‘s James Pearce.

It’s understood that current supplier New Balance have matched Nike’s reported £70-million-a-year offer and have now initiated legal action as they believe the club are contractually entitled to extend their partnership. You can read more on that story here.

Even though both parties have tabled the same bid, Pearce says the Reds’ preference lies with Nike.

This is because of Nike’s significantly greater ‘global distribution network’.

Pearce also suggested the figures being mentioned are likely to be final.

Liverpool are in the final year of their New Balance deal and will want their future plans finalised as soon as possible with a view to launching their new kits in the spring of 2020.

Nike already supply titans like Barcelona and PSG, so it’s no surprise that they’re intent on adding the reigning European champions to their roster.
