“An incredible club”: Brendan Rodgers speaks out on Anfield return

Brendan Rodgers,  the former Reds boss, says that he is looking forward to returning to Anfield next weekend with his in-form Leicester City side.

Rodgers gave Reds fans the unbelievable 2013/14 season, and while it ended in only a second-place finish, the excitement and joy that his players and football brought to Merseyside must not be forgotten.

Via the Daily Mirror, he explained: “I’m really looking forward to it because I haven’t been back since I left. It’s an incredible club which was great for me in my time there. I learned so much and was given great experiences.

“Of course, they’ve been amazing these last couple of years – Champions’ League winners – so I’m looking forward to going back.”

Rodgers has made an excellent start to the new campaign, and in fact, since he took over at the King Power Stadium towards the back end of last season, only the Reds and Manchester City have picked up more points in the Premier League than the Foxes.

He added: “It’s still very early, we’re not getting carried away, the top six have been there for a number of years and the numbers have shown they have pulled away from the teams below. But we’re improving, getting better and we’re showing real good progress.”

Before the Premier League clash on Saturday afternoon, a rare 3pm kick-off for the Reds, Jurgen Klopp’s men face the significant challenge of Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League group stages.

Two wins from the two matches to take place this week would go a long way towards continuing the good form that the Reds are in and helping them progress in the two major competitions.
