“I was supposed to sign for Liverpool” – Lille forward opens up on failed transfer

Lille striker Loic Remy has admitted that he was supposed to sign for Liverpool in 2014, before joining Chelsea from QPR.

It was one of contemporary football’s greatest mysteries – why didn’t Remy sing for the Reds? The line from close to the club was that he failed his medical.

This is something the Frenchman remarks on, in an interview with the Independent. “I was supposed to sign for Liverpool. I went for the medical in Boston, then apparently I failed the medical,he said.

For me, everything happens for a reason, which means at the end of the day, Chelsea. We had a fantastic season. This year Liverpool had been in trouble, it was not the Liverpool of the previous season.

Fair play to Remy, but I’m not sure the dig at Liverpool was entirely needed.

I do find this mini-revelation interesting though. Let’s take a look at the failed transfer of Nabil Fekir and his apparent knee problems. It just raises the question what the Reds actually look for in these players. It’s certainly intriguing, as it’s not all that often a professional footballer fails a medical.

Remy went on to feature for Crystal Palace, Las Palmas and Getafe, before settling at Lille last year.
