“My agent was dealing with it” – Ben Chilwell opens up on failed Liverpool move

In an alternative universe, Ben Chilwell is a Liverpool player and Andrew Robertson likely plays for another Premier League club.

I, for one, am happy that we live in this universe as the Scotland international has established himself as one of the Europe’s finest players in his position.

But a 19-year-old Chilwell was once an exciting prospect to the Reds, and I recall Liverpool fans being excited by the prospect of singing the Leicester left-back.

Three years on, the defender was asked about his failed move to Anfield and he had a simple response. “My agent was the one dealing with it all, talking to Liverpool and Leicester about the situation,he told Sky Sports.

At the time, I was trying to break into the Under-21 team at Leicester so I was just focused on getting into that and progressing into the first team here.

Definitely no regrets. When I look at how the last four or five years have gone, starting eight games now for the England team is something I’m very happy with.

Leicester was the right place for me to be at the time and the older players have helped me a lot. The staff have kept me grounded. Definitely no regrets.

I’m happy for the lad – he’s done well with the Foxes and continues to prove himself as one of the better full backs in the Premier League.

His comments are a stark contrast with those of Loic Remy however. The former Chelsea man, too, spoke about his failed transfer to Liverpool recently.

The Frenchman throws doubt on whether he actually failed his Liverpool medical, and claims that the Reds were not the same team they were the season before they tried to sign him.
