James Milner willing to take pay cut to join boyhood club – report

Liverpool midfielder James Milner is reportedly keeping tabs on Leeds United as the Champions League winner fancies a move home.

Milner’s boyhood club is Leeds, and he’s said to be ready to take a pay cut to re-join the Yorkshire outfit in the future.

According to Football Insider, he wants to stay at Liverpool for another year before moving on. But the same report claims the Reds are hopeful he’ll sign another deal with them.

It’s believed a new contract from Liverpool would be at a lower base wage package – with appearances and performances allowing for top ups.

Opinion

While Milner is still capable of playing at the level he finds himself, I think he’ll stay with Liverpool. This summer, I think he’ll sign a one-year deal.

At the end of said contract, for me, the least surprising result would be for him to sign a short-term contract with Leeds before considering retirement.

Milner will be approaching 35 when he signs for Leeds, in this scenario, but it honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see him still playing at 38 or even 40.

The man is an absolute athlete and a model professional – he’ll only stop playing once he wants to stop, his fitness won’t let him down.
