Jurgen Klopp reveals why Liverpool didn’t sign Ben Chilwell

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has acknowledged that the Reds were interested in Leicester City star Ben Chilwell before signing Any Robertson.

The Scot has gone on to prove himself as one of the finest left backs in Europe, while Chilwell is regarded as one of the better full backs in the Premier League.

You could say all is well that ends well.

But Klopp has now confirmed that Liverpool were interested in the defender, but Leicester refused to allow one of their most promising players to move on.

While the then teenager was on loan at Hudderfield, the boss has admitted that David Wagner was constantly talking about him.

Dave Wagner was in my ear pretty much every day, but Leicester didn’t want to let him go,” he’s quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo.

In an alternative universe, Ben Chilwell is a Liverpool player and Andrew Robertson likely plays for another Premier League club.

In this universe, three years on, the defender was asked about his failed move to Anfield and he had a simple response. “My agent was the one dealing with it all, talking to Liverpool and Leicester about the situation,” he told Sky Sports.

At the time, I was trying to break into the Under-21 team at Leicester so I was just focused on getting into that and progressing into the first team here.

Definitely no regrets.”

I’m happy for the lad – he’s done well with the Foxes and continues to prove himself as one of the better full backs in the Premier League.
