This Manchester City fan’s banner in support of Bernardo Silva is genuinely awful

Manchester City lost at the Etihad Stadium this afternoon, the first time that Pep Guardiola has lost at home without his side scoring a goal since he arrived at the club from Bayern Munich, leaving the Reds eight points clear after eight games of the season.

Nicolas Otamendi’s defending was bad enough on the pitch but it was what went on in the stands from one City supporter that was the most embarrassing moment of the afternoon as the below image shows.

The idea that VAR is conspiring against City is frankly ridiculous. That some of their supporters genuinely think that it has been brought in to bring them down is nothing short of laughable.

One City fan, in a piece with The Athletic, explained how he had cancelled his Champions League season ticket this year because he refused to watch it anymore, purely because of VAR.

He reasoned, if that can possibly be the right word, that VAR was only in place when it could harm City’s chances, and not when they needed it.

It’s fine to think VAR isn’t right in it’s current form, or even at all. But to suggest a racist tweet is less harmful than it? Do yourself a favour.
