Barcelona still owe a ridiculous amount for Philippe Coutinho – but don’t get too excited just yet

Philippe Coutinho had a nightmare of a time at Barcelona after he moved from Anfield to Camp Nou.

His form at Bayern Munich so far in his short period of time in the Bundesliga will only have infuriated the Catalan side even more given they saw nothing close to his true talent.

Barcelona appear to have made a costly mistake by spending £143 million on the Brazilian – and they are still paying the price now, quite literally.

According to the Liverpool ECHO, Barcelona still owe £84.3 million of Coutinho’s transfer fee, though it must be added that they do not owe that money to the Reds.

Barcelona’s accounts show that the Reds are owed around £5 million of the money, with the rest to be paid to a third party involved in the transaction. The huge amount is due to be paid by the end of the season.

With Alisson and Virgil van Dijk purchased with the money the Reds received for Coutinho, there is no doubting who got the better end of the deal.
