Remember four years ago when teenage sensation Martin Odegaard was being chased by every big club in Europe?
The Norwegian had done some outrageous things in his homeland as a 15-year-old for Strømsgodset, and Real Madrid eventually won the race for his signature.
But in the intervening years, he’s not fulfilled his potential – sent on loan to Heerenveen and Vitesse – doing some pretty good, but not special things – in the process.
This term though, back in Spain at Real Sociedad, he seems to have properly come good.
Odegaard has been a terrific creative presence in La Liga, scoring twice and registering two assists in eight games – wowing pundits and fans alike with his vision.
ESPN, cited by Calciomercato, have stated that Real Madrid may now try to cash in on Odegaard while his stock is high – mentioning Liverpool and Manchester City as potential buyers.
Odegaard is a sublime talent (watch some clips of his passes this season), so he’d certainly be an interesting potential acquisition.
However, he thrives as a no.10 and we’re not sure there’s any room in our system for a non-running playmaker.
Still, we’ll watch this space with interest.
