“Ridiculous” Liverpool won’t match Arsenal’s Invincibles, according to Sky Sports pundit

Following Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Leicester; their eighth successive victory in the Premier League, former Arsenal man Paul Merson has made a prediction about the Reds.

Speaking on whether or not Jorgen Kopp’s men can go ‘invincible’ – a feat only achieved by Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal in the modern era – Merson said “not a chance”.

“What Arsenal did all those years ago, that’s some going,” he told Sky Sports. “What Liverpool are doing though, winning all these games on the trot, that’s ridiculous.”

“They weren’t great the other day, when Leicester got it to 1-1, and they looked like the team that might nick it, even though Liverpool didn’t deserve to lose.”

And seemingly because of the lacklustre performance against the Foxes, Merson said “Liverpool won’t go unbeaten, not a chance”.

There is some likelihood in what the former Arsenal man says because the Premier League is much more difficult nowadays than it was when Arsenal managed to go unbeaten.

Last season, Liverpool had enough points to win the title all but two years of the Premier League era -and both times it was only the mega-rich Manchester City ahead of us.

The Reds may not go unbeaten for the entirety of the season, but one thing is for sure – we’re the only team in the modern era that’s equipped to take on such a feat.
