Wijnaldum refuses to carried away by Liverpool PL title talk

Liverpool are eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but (obviously) it’s far from over in the title race with 30 games left to play.

Some pundits – like Gary Neville, Paul Merson and Micah Richard – have spoken out about the Reds’ chances of winning the title this season, but our players stay grounded.

You can’t sniff at a 100% record in the Premier League, at any stage of the season, and sitting atop the table with an international break ahead, Liverpool players will be feeling good.

But one of our players isn’t letting it get to his head – Gini Wijnaldum has said that the Reds aren’t champions yet so there’s no point thinking about it too much.

We don’t want to think we are already champions. That would be a really wrong thing to do,he told Sky Sports.

I’m sure the manager will keep us with our feet on the ground and say that we just have to think about ourselves, and try to play good and try to give 100 per cent every week.

We just have to do what we did before and look at ourselves and not look too much to other teams because we don’t have influence on other teams – we can’t control the performance of other teams.

We just have to make sure we are ready for the games that are to come and to make sure we are ready and try to have good results because we know that it can change quickly.

Then at the end of the season we will see where we stand.

Gini is displaying the kind of attitude that we love to see. Too often in the past, some teams have taken their foot off the peddle and lost out.

If the squad has the same attitude as the Dutch international then we’re certainly well ready for the fight this season.

Based on current form, we win the Premier League title by 38 clear points, but it’d be naïve to assume we can keep up the form we’ve been in for the season.

The important thing is that we keep our heads down and keep picking up points – forget about everyone else, just focus on ourselves.
