Tammy Abraham on ‘Beast’ Van Dijk – ‘He’s quite annoying – just leave me alone’

This is a brilliant description from Chelsea’s excellent young forward Tammy Abraham on what it’s like to face Virgil van Dijk.

The Englishman toiled for the Blues at Stamford Bridge v Liverpool a few weeks back, as his side lost 2-1 to Jurgen Klopp’s rampant Reds.

Abraham did well, and should have scored a one-on-one he had in the first-half, but van Dijk was mostly imperious and mostly had the better of the promising striker.

Chelsea’s attacker has explained in detail why van Dijk is considered the best on the planet and why

“He’s a beast,” Abraham told the Mirror. “He’s just good at what he does. He’s experienced. I try to do a little… I try to use my tricks in my head but his understanding of the game is top drawer.

“It is to do with little things. Movement. My movement in the box, some defenders don’t pay attention to me – they are only focussed on the ball.

“With him, it’s kind of both, he’s paying attention to me and the ball, knows where I am, knows where I want to go, follows me.

“It’s quite annoying for a striker – just leave me alone!”

You know van Dijk has increased the levels expected of centre-backs when opponents going past him goes viral on Twitter on the odd occasion it happens!

Before his arrival, Liverpool had maybe the shakiest defence of any big English club, but now (despite an inability to rack up clean-sheets this term) we’re renowned for our backline as much as our front-three.

Alisson’s return to the XI after the international break will be massively beneficial and help our high-line, as Adrian found coming out his box less natural.

We wish Abraham a good season, especially when he faces Manchester City in November!
