Chris Kirkland backs LFC to equal impressible City record & win Premier League

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has backed his former club to maintain their current form and defeat Manchester United at Old Trafford.

A win at Old Trafford would mean 18 games on the bounce that Jurgen Klopp’s Reds have won – which would equal a Premier League record set by Manchester City.

The former England international has watched on as the German boss has turned Liverpool into one of the finest sides in Europe from a team capable of battling it out for a top 6 finish.

This meteoric rise with Klopp has Kirkland believing that the Reds will win their elusive 19th league title this year – and end a 30-year wait for fans.

Liverpool are certainly trying their best, by being the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to still have a 100% record.

Manchester United are going through a tough spell but Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] will make sure they’re up for that game,Kirkland told Sky Sports.

The fans know what that means but I expect us to go there and get a result, I just don’t think they can stop us. The way we go forward, the way we defend, we’re solid all over the pitch. I think we’ll get the three points.

In the current climate, backing Liverpool to beat Manchester United isn’t the most surprising thing you could say, but claiming the Reds could win the league title after eight games could be.

Except our domestic form – at the minute – suggests we are going to put up a better fight this season, while City appear to have dropped their performances by a notch.

I honestly do think it is [Liverpool’s year],” he said. “Last year was so unlucky. People say losing by one point was devastating, I would rather have lost by one point than be 15, 16 points behind City still.

I think with City’s injury problems they’ve got at the back, [Aymeric] Laporte is a huge miss, Vincent Kompany is a massive miss for them. At the back you can get at them.

When we play them, if we can take points off them then all of a sudden you’re talking double figures. Can you see us losing four or five games this season? Not the way we’re playing.
