Steven Gerrard shortlisted for Championship job – report

Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has reportedly been shortlisted for a job with Premier League hopefuls Leeds United, after it emerged that Marcelo Bielsa may not be there for the long-term.

It’s unclear what the Rangers manager thinks of this potential job, but a move to England would likely be on the cards in a future.

Leeds would be an interesting choice as they’ve historically been a bit of a rival to Liverpool, but there’s certainly no feelings of animosity between the clubs so there’d likely be no outcry if Stevie joined them.

This is all according to Football Insider – their report states that Gerrard is a ‘prime target’ for the Yorkshire club. As things stand, Stevie is unlikely to want to move just yet as Rangers are top of the SPL.

It’d be unfortunate if he were to move on before seeing out what could be a memorable year for ‘Gers and Scottish football fans alike – Celtic not winning the title.

This news will likely not be celebrated by Leeds fans however, as they’ve grown to like Bielsa – his managerial style and overall personality has resonated well with those at Elland Road.

That being said, if the Argentine does move on after getting Leeds promoted, Gerrard will be a risky move as he doesn’t have any experience at the top flight.

Frank Lampard comes to mind, but his brief spell at Derby was at least something. Another failed promotion would be a scenario where Gerrard is more likely to join Leeds, in my opinion.
