Trent open to the idea of playing in midfield

Liverpool full back Trent Alexander-Arnold is one of the best creative players in the Premier League, and some people have wondered if he’ll make the move to midfield.

While it’s possible that Trent would make an excellent central midfielder, Jurgen Klopp would be tasked with finding an appropriate replacement.

It’d be near-impossible with Ki Jana Hoever standing out as our only realistic option to step into the Scouser’s shoes.

That being said, Trent has never shied away from telling people that he wants to play in a more advanced role, but he is happy to play at right back.

Obviously I’m a defender first and foremost, then I want to try and help the team create chances,he told the Liverpool Echo.

For now the manager has decided I’m a right back. That’s where I’ll play. I’m really not fussed where I play. I just want to play football.

If a manager decides to use me in midfield, or as a centre-back or a striker then that’s where I’ll play.

It’s a great bit of attitude from Trent to admit that he does want to play further up the pitch, but he’s more interested in what the team and his manager wants from him.

I’d like to see him remain at right back – it’s exciting to imagine what he can do from a midfield position, but he’s arguably the best right back in the world…why move him?

I like how Trent says he’d be happy to play up front for the Reds. I wonder what that would look like. His comments have made me think of another scenario too – it wouldn’t be terrible if we had to use him as a last-resort right winger.

Klopp will love what Trent’s said here, as the boss loves his players to be versatile.
