Philippe Coutinho could be crucial to Reds next signing as Jurgen Klopp linked with move for former favourite

Philippe Coutinho could reportedly play a crucial role in the player the Reds choose to sign next, with Jurgen Klopp said to be interested once again in a move for Thomas Muller, who the Brazilian has replaced in the Bayern Munich team.

The ex-Barcelona man has been brilliant for Bayern since moving to the Bundesliga, and Muller has found himself out of the side, meaning he is looking for a move elsewhere.

According to Bild, Klopp was interested in signing Muller back in 2017 but Bayern would not contemplate a sale. Now, he could go back for the Germany international with his club likely to be far more prepared to let him go today.

However, having turned 30 just under a month ago, Muller is not the type of player that the Reds would ordinarily go for, so it seems unlikely that he will be arriving.

Add to that the fact that he generally plays as a number 10 – a position the Reds do not have in a 4-3-3 system – and the cost that the transfer would take, and this one might simply be a case of putting two and two together and making five.

Muller is still an excellent player, but it just goes to show the level the Reds are at right now that it seems unlikely Klopp would be that desperate to bring him to Anfield.

It could happen, and the rumours will no doubt continue, but we wouldn’t be betting on Muller becoming a Reds player just yet.
